Clovis High School was briefly locked down Wednesday after a gun was found in a student’s backpack.

The lockdown started about 3:45 p.m. and lasted around 10 minutes. Police said a vape sensor went off in one of the bathrooms. The student learned the school was planning to conduct a search as a result, so the student ran. The gun was found in a backpack the student left behind.

Police are working to find the student. Charges are pending. The lockdown was lifted after it was confirmed the student was no longer on campus.
